These irregular circle enamel stud earrings feature a fun half crisscross pattern. They were made using the sgraffito technique, where the irregular pattern is scratched through the enamel, providing a lovely contrast between the enameled copper below and the black enamel.

First the irregular circles are hand-cut out of copper sheet metal and then sterling silver posts are soldered on the backs. Next they are ready to be enameled, first with a layer of clear enamel, followed by a layer of lovely black enamel over half the front. Then the crisscross pattern is scratched out of the black enamel allowing the copper beneath to show through before kiln-firing them again to achieve the smooth finish. They are finished with tan enamel on the back sides.
