These fun diamond enamel stud earrings feature a star burst radiating from the corner. They were made using the sgraffito technique, where the burst pattern is scratched through the enamel, providing a lovely contrast between the enameled copper below and the black enamel.

First the diamond shape of the earrings is hand-cut out of copper sheet metal and then sterling silver posts are soldered on the backs. Next they are ready to be enameled, first with a layer of clear enamel, followed by a layer of lovely deep black enamel over the front. Then the starburst pattern is scratched out of the black enamel allowing the copper beneath to show through before kiln-firing them again to achieve the smooth finish. They are finished with dark gray enamel on the back sides.
