These fun long enamel stud earrings feature a diagonal crisscross pattern that was made using the sgraffito technique, where the crisscross pattern is scratched through the enamel, providing a lovely contrast between the enameled copper below and the black enamel.

First the design for these earrings was sketched out and then the shapes were hand-cut out of copper sheet metal and sterling silver posts were then soldered on the backs. Next they were ready to be enameled, first with a layer of clear enamel, followed by a layer of lovely black enamel over half of all the pieces. Then the diagonal crisscross pattern was scratched out of the black enamel allowing the copper beneath to show through before kiln-firing them again to achieve the smooth finish. They are finished with dark gray enamel on the back sides.
