These enamel stud earrings were inspired by the intricate patterns of brain coral. They were made using the sgraffito technique, where the hand-drawn pattern is scratched through the enamel, providing a lovely contract between the enameled copper below and the black enamel.

The design is first sketched out and then the oval shape of the earrings is hand-cut out of copper sheet metal. Next sterling silver posts are soldered on the backs. Then they are ready to be enameled, first with a layer of clear enamel, followed by a layer of lovely deep black overglaze over the front. Then the pattern is scratched out of the black enamel allowing the copper beneath to show through before kiln-firing them again to achieve the smooth finish. They have tan enamel on the backs.
